You need look no further than Ruthin Castle (the "Red Fort"), which dates from before 1277 and dominates the historic Welsh market town of Ruthin, close to Chester, Llangollen and within easy reach of the North Wales Coast, Snowdonia and picturesque Betws-y-Coed. The castle previously formed part of the Crown Estate until sold by Charles I in 1632 and sits in its ancient walled dry moat within acres of private landscaped gardens, parkland and woods alongside the River Clwyd.
Weddings
Every Princess deserves a fairytale castle wedding and Ruthin Castle provides a truly outstanding and secluded wedding setting in 30 acres of landscaped gardens, parkland and woods. A multitude of picture-perfect photographic opportunities exist within the castle itself or using the castle exterior as a backdrop or in the gardens around the castle... the rose garden, the terrace garden, the old mediaeval walled garden walkway and the Italian garden... and lots more!!
The Cornwallis Lounge, Peacock Room, King Charles Room and Grand Salon are all licensed for Civil Wedding Ceremonies and provide a variety of sizes and styles that is unique to Ruthin Castle. Please note that a Civil Ceremony can only be booked in conjunction with a full Wedding Reception at Ruthin Castle.
Wedding Receptions
For Wedding Receptions we can also offer a choice of wonderful rooms to suit the occasion - from the massive, sparkling, crystal chandelier and glittering mirrors of the Grand Salon which opens onto the Terrace Garden, to the less formal but charming Peacock Room which opens onto the Rose Garden, or a fun, themed costume wedding in the Mediaeval Banquet Hall which adjoins the Italian Garden and mediaeval walled garden. We can provide a setting for the smallest, most intimate wedding or for a maximum of around 140 within the hotel but the grounds also allow the option of a marquee to accommodate up to 500 guests or simply to capture the outdoor feeling of Spring or Summer. It is one of the most secluded wedding venues in North Wales and can also be booked for exclusive use.
Accommodation
The pink marble monumental lions reclining proudly on their plinths and the red welcoming carpet at the entrance immediately let you know that Ruthin Castle is a special hotel, but special in a friendly, comfortable way rather than being grand, formal and intimidating.
The castle has a proud, centuries-old tradition of providing hospitality and comfort including hosting numerous Royal guests. It is difficult not just to feel welcome but also to feel part of the great history of the castle and those that have come before.
Dining
Ruthin Castle offers a choice of setting for a relaxing drink before and after dining, all of which have cosy open fires and decorative ribbed ceilings... the Library Bar with its Welsh Oak wood-panelled octagonal walls and heavy leather seating or the Inner Hall with its impressive oil paintings or the Cornwallis Lounge with its soft sofas and easy chairs.
