The Castle Hotel is the ideal base for exploring the region with its history and legends. This is the land of King Arthur, King Alfred and Lorna Doone’s Exmoor, Glastonbury, Wells. Longleat House, some superb National Trust treasures and the and the majestic gardens of Stourhead are all within easy reach. Gertrude Jekyll’s famous Hestercombe Gardens are virtually on the doorstep. Within a short walk of the hotel is the Somerset County Cricket Ground and just outside Taunton is Taunton Racecourse. Coleridge and Wordsworth used to walk the nearby Quantock Hills; it was while walking these hills that Coleridge was inspired to write ‘The Rime of the Ancient Mariner’.
