Thornbury Castle
Thornbury Castle and Tudor Gardens, Castle Street BS35 1HH Thornbury (Gloucestershire)
One of England’s most romantic wedding venues.
Thornbury Castle is one of the most romantic hotels in the country. With its magnificent medieval architecture, impressive Tudor Hall, luxurious bedrooms and award winning food it really is the perfect location for an unforgettable wedding. The Castle’s idyllic walled gardens provide an unsurpassed and splendid setting for your drinks reception and photographs.
Thornbury Castle has an excellent pedigree when it comes to its food and has won many prestigious awards over the years. As you would expect, our Head Chef, uses locally sourced, seasonal produce for his modern British menu. A variety of vegetables and herbs come from the Castle’s own Kitchen Garden and we have our very own vineyard too. He will create a delicious and artistically presented wedding breakfast that will delight and dazzle yourselves and your guests.
Each one of our luxurious bedchambers offers a very distinctive experience. You may wish to stay in the Duke’s Bedchamber - where Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn once slept. This grand room, located in the hexagonal tower, features an impressive antique four-poster, an open fire and a freestanding bathtub. Alternatively, you might prefer the Woodstock with its arrow slit windows and secret bathroom. Regardless of which one you plumb for you’ll find that each one is appointed to the very highest standard and offers every imaginable luxury.
In-room pampering treatments to help you both relax before, or after, your wedding can be arranged.
If you’re looking for that extra touch of luxury, why not hire our chauffeur driven Rolls Royce Phantom and arrive in impeccable style.
At Thornbury Castle we pride ourselves on knowing a thing or two about organising a successful wedding. Whether you and your partner want a large traditional wedding or a more intimate affair, we will hold your hand from the initial consultation right through to the big day itself. We will offer you plenty of advice and guidance and will work hard to ensure that every detail is just right.
Civil Ceremonies and Civil Partnerships
Here at Thornbury Castle we have four splendid public rooms in which you can hold your ceremony.
The Tudor Hall
We are very proud of our Tudor Hall as there’s nothing else quite like it in the country. It is a truly magnificent room, which is guaranteed to illicit gasps of wonder from your guests. The room features an impressive mullioned window, stone walls adorned with tapestries and paintings, and a huge original fireplace. Ceremonies take place in front of the magnificent window with guests seated in traditional aisles. Smaller ceremonies take place in front of the fireplace with guests seated in an arc around it. The Tudor Hall can accommodate up to 75 guests and is a particularly magical setting for winter weddings.
The Drawing Room
The Drawing Room provides another splendid setting for your ceremony. The wood panelled room is furnished with antiques and plush Knole sofas, with original oil paintings adorning the walls. There’s also an ornate fireplace and two magnificent windows. The room lends itself to relaxed and informal gatherings and is particularly romantic when lit by firelight and candelabras. The ceremonies take place in front of one of the windows - overlooking the walled Tudor gardens. This room can also accommodate up to 45 guests.
The Library
The Library is a delightful room for an intimate wedding for close family and friends. It has a splendid Oriel window that overlooks the walled Tudor garden and it’s here that the ceremonies take place. The Library can accommodate up to 15 guests.
The Summer House
It doesn’t come any more romantic than this. Our Summer House is located within the walls of the oldest Tudor garden in England. The ceremony takes place inside whilst guests remain on the lawn. This is a delightful way to get married and will be a talking point for years to come.
