In a quiet, woodland setting yet minutes from Newcastle city centre, Jesmond Dene House Hotel and Restaurant offers understated luxury, contemporary style and award-winning food. Some call it a boutique hotel, others a townhouse or country house hotel. In truth, it’s probably a mix of all three. The striking Arts and Crafts building has been carefully updated to create 40 distinctly individual bedrooms: sleek, spacious, modern. The award-winning restaurant offers skilful yet unfussy food and is open to all, whether for coffee and cakes or a tasting menu dinner.

With colourful gardens, family suites, intimate spaces and grand rooms, the hotel makes a memorable choice for weddings, romantic weekend breaks, business meetings or a wicked afternoon tea. The hotel is also an ideal base for exploring Newcastle, Northumberland and the North East.

Weddings

As a wedding venue, we’re not like other hotels. For a start, we don’t believe in wedding packages. We just have some rather special rooms and spaces, and some creative dining options so you can put together your own individual wedding day. We’re licensed to hold civil ceremonies so you can get married here and celebrate afterwards or you can just come here for your wedding reception.

You can be as intimate or as flamboyant as you like. The Apartment, for example, is a quiet, private place for a ceremony for up to 10 guests or you can invite 100 people and enjoy the richness of the wood-panelled, Great Hall. Together with our range of other private rooms, we can cope with any number in between. And there are colourful gardens for drinks and photographs, should you so choose.

We can arrange small supper parties or grand banquets, late wedding breakfasts or evening cocktails plus help you sort flowers, photographers, cakes, magicians… Your choice, your wedding day.

Private dining

Jesmond Dene House has three private dining rooms plus the Great Hall, there’s a choice of settings for lunch parties, private suppers, celebrations, business dinners, receptions or formal banquets. Overlooking the garden, the Norman Shaw Room can comfortably seat 18 people. A light and airy room, it has stone steps leading to a terrace with views over the wooded Dene; a lovely spot for pre-dinner drinks. On the lower ground floor, the John Dobson Room also has access to this terrace and can seat up to 22 people. The next door Frank Rich Room, overlooking the trees of the Dene, is a more intimate room seating up to 12 people.

Larger parties can use the Great Hall, a spectacular, double-height room with oak and silk wall panelling, Gothic windows, carved inglenook fireplace and minstrels’ gallery. With a separate, stone arched entrance - away from hotel and restaurant guests - and dedicated lounge bar, up to 100 people can sit down to dinner or around 150 gather for receptions.

Accommodation

Our 40 individually designed bedrooms and suites have a modern sense of luxury: space, handsome looks, sleek furnishings.

No two bedrooms are the same. Open the door and you might find a lofty ceiling and grand mullioned window. Or the room might be low and intimate with deep-set windows and cosy window seats. Or there might be a flight of steps to a hidden love-nest. And no two bedroom views are the same: choose trees or garden or rooftops.

Furniture is uncluttered with hints of velvet and silk to make you feel cosseted, while big beds wrap you in Egyptian cotton bed linen. Muted shades are mixed with bold wallpaper and vibrant colours; fun but not too startling. Bathrooms have a crisp, clean functionalism and sexy under floor heating to warm bare feet. Our eight suites, two with private terraces, have more space, more fun, more luxurious touches.

With flat screen television, digital radio, free broadband access and desk space, these bedrooms are designed to help you work or ensure you relax.
