Purbeck House Hotel

Purbeck House Hotel is a family run hotel steeped in over a century of history. Nestled in extensive gardens in the centre of Swanage, this unique family-run hotel combines the atmosphere of a traditional country house with all the amenities of a modern hotel.

Steeped in history, the 38 bedrooms are divided between the main house, constructed in 1875, and the newly-built Louisa Lodge (completed in 2003). All of the bedrooms are en suite and some have sea or garden views. The hotel has a large car park and is only 300 yards from the sea front and the clean, sandy beaches.

Weddings

The Purbeck House Hotel is a family run hotel whose staff are experienced in providing a friendly, personal approach to your enquiries and wedding day.

Formerly a convent, the hotel is set in large grounds overlooking Swanage Bay providing a choice of beautiful backdrops for your photographs. We are the first hotel premises in the Isle of Purbeck to hold a Civil Marriage Ceremony Licence, held now for three years and recently renewed for a further three.

We have three rooms which are specially licensed: the Purbeck Room, the Garden Conservatory and the Thomas Hardy Restaurant.

The Purbeck Room, with its timber clad walls, was formerly the Convent Chapel and provides a unique venue for your wedding ceremony. The room can accommodate up to 90 guests (seated) for a marriage service, or 70 guests for a seated reception meal.

The Garden Conservatory, overlooking the main drive and extensive gardens, accommodates up to 130 guests (seated) for both Civil Marriage Ceremonies and wedding reception meals.

Our Rooms

Purbeck House combines the atmosphere of a traditional country house with the amenities of a modern, three star hotel. All Rooms are en-suite and provide direct-dial telephones, tea/coffee making facilities and colour televisions.

Those in the original Victorian mansion have been tastefully furnished to give the feel of a bygone era and many offer splendid views over the Purbeck Hills, Swanage Bay and the gardens.

Louisa Lodge nestles in the extensive and tranquil grounds behind the original building. Completed in 2003, all 20 spacious bedrooms have been designed and furnished in a modern, comfortable style.
