The Angel & Royal Hotel

Some say that the old Angel has more historical interest than many of our stately homes in the United Kingdom. Widely regarded and fondly known as the oldest surviving English Inn, the main façade of the building that stands today was built approximately 600 years ago. The site then, however, had already been an Inn for 200 years, and was built as a hostel for the chivalrous Brotherhood of the Knights Templar.

After the last war, the hotel was purchased by Trust House Hotels, later to become Trust House Forte, and remained in their hands up until a few years ago, since when there has been a succession of owners including several brewery companies. In May 2002, the Angel & Royal was purchased by a local consortia of business professionals whose intention it is to bring this historic and much loved property back to its former glory and to retain its wonderful character that so many have come to enjoy over the last 800 years.

Location

The Angel & Royal Hotel is idyllically situated in the south- west corner of Lincolnshire in the ancient market town of Grantham. Grantham is surrounded by the vale of Belvoir which offers breathtaking vistas of rolling hills, and acres of woodland punctuated with golden fields.

The town itself offers an eclectic mix of architecture, a local market on a Saturday, and lively nightlife. Excellent transport links to the town mean it couldn’t be easier for your guests to get here to joinyou for your special day.

The location and surroundings of The Angel & Royal Hotel make it a perfect place for holding a small and intimate or large celebration.

Civil ceremony

The Angel & Royal Hotel is a licensed venue for the solemnisation of marriages and civil partnerships. A choice of rooms are available for your ceremony, which range from a small marriage of 10- 25 up to larger ceremonies of up to 75 people.

Once you have decided on a civil ceremony, you will need to make direct contact with the superintendent registrar for Lincolnshire County Council and liase with the hotel over the arrangements for the ceremony.
