Description of The Morritt

The Morritt is a country hotel with a wonderful restaurant that is the venue of choice for weddings and conferences in Teesdale, County Durham.

Your Wedding at The Morritt

You will be the only wedding on the day you choose for your celebrations at The Morritt. Your guests will feel quite at home relaxing in our cosy lounges, more often than not, in front of our many log fires or strolling through our beautifully kept gardens. We are a family run hotel and like to get to know our guests so that we can create a comfortable and welcoming atmosphere.

Which room will best suit your wedding celebrations?

  • Our ballroom seats up to 200 depending on the layout you choose. We shall be happy to advise on
    the best seating for your occasion taking into account the style, the event and the numbers to be present. Up to 350 can be accommodated for buffet and dancing.
  • The Garden Room can seat 100 for the Civil Ceremony or 60 for the Wedding Breakfast. It can be used independently or as a seamless extension to the Ballroom.
  • The adjoining Rokeby Suite can seat up to 40 and may be used independently or as an extension to The Ballroom
  • The oak panelled Gilroy’s Restaurant seats up to 60.
  • The Blue Room seats up to 14 people and is ideal for that intimate occasion.

All of our function rooms benefit from natural light.

Bar facilities

These are available in The Dickens Bar, which serves the comfortable lounges and the Ballroom; the Rokeby Suite which can be used as a private bar serving the Ballroom or Gilroy’s Cocktail Bar which serves Gilroy’s Restaurant.

The civil marriage ceremony

For couples who wish to have a civil marriage ceremony, The Morritt provides a beautiful setting for
an alternative wedding venue. We were the first location in County Durham to offer this service and we have gained a great deal of experience in combining ceremony with celebration.

Evening reception

To extend your special day we offer The Ballroom for your evening receptions. There is no room hire charge if you are meeting our minimum requirements as outlined in our terms and conditions. We offer a bar extension until 1.00am at no extra cost. Our excellent resident disco is available - price dependent on number of hours required.

Flowers and other services

Flowers and all other services can be arranged with your own suppliers or we have a comprehensive list of excellent suppliers who have proven themselves over many years of working together with us at The Morritt.

Gardens

Our gardens have been beautifully landscaped, offering exceptional photo opportunities.

Other entertainment

We are happy to arrange alternative forms of musical entertainment for your event. Prices vary according to the size and style of musical group. Ceilidh and discos are particularly popular.
Children’s entertainment can also be organised - magician, Punch and Judy show, clowns etc.

Lounges

Our lounges add to the enjoyment of a ‘Morritt’ wedding. Guests enjoy this additional facility, which
offers a comfortable place to sit and chat. Your guest list will often span three generations, so our
quieter areas give a chance to take a breather from the excitement of the wedding party.
