The Gardens

The Royal Hotel is renowned for its colourful sub tropical gardens. The drama and beauty of the gardens is the first thing the visitor sees, and it sets the scene for a magical stay. Linger a while, order a drink or tea on the terrace and admire the view. During the season the grounds are a tapestry of colours from burnt orange to deepest purple. The inspired planting and layout is the work of Chris Kidd & Simon Goodenough - Head Gardener & Curator at the celebrated Ventnor Botanical Gardens. Chris has continued a long tradition of using rare and unusual plants in the gardens of The Royal.

Conferences and Banqeting

Looking for an inspiring venue? The Royal has a selection of conference rooms that are ideal for both small and larger events: The Appuldurcombe Room; The Albert Suite; The Top Lounge.

The elegant and tranquil surroundings will allow you to relax and focus on business, while our attention to detail ensures that the day’s events run smoothly.

The Royal offers a bespoke service to fit your individual requirements, whatever the scale of the event. There are two fully equipped conference rooms as well as several syndicate rooms, catering for small, team-building exercises up to large conferences. Secretarial support is available and our staff are happy to meet individual requirements.

Special Activities: Should there be time, our staff are very happy to make arrangements for a boat charter, round of golf, or other activities such as supplying mountain bikes for a breathtaking cycle ride with our Land Rover to bring you home.

Weddings at The Royal

Our highest priority at The Royal is to ensure that your special day goes smoothly by delivering the highest quality service and cuisine. From the moment you decide that The Royal is your venue of choice, our dedicated Function Co-ordinator and experienced Front of House Management Team will be on hand to discuss your menus, wines and any special requests you might have - from room layout to favourite dishes.

The Royal has a license for wedding and civil ceremonies to take place in our Appuldurcombe Restaurant, Albert Room and Lounge.

Our largest room, the Appuldurcombe Restaurant, is available for weddings during the months of January, February, March, November and December. This room can seat up to a maximum of 130 people, with a minimum of 80 people required for a sit-down meal.

We are able to cater for smaller weddings in the Appuldurcombe Restaurant during most months of the year, dependent on the type of event and expected numbers.

We are able to cater for smaller weddings of up to a maximum of 40 people most months of the year in our second restaurant, the Albert Room.

A visit to our glorious, award-winning restaurant will linger in the imagination long after you return home. The menu created by our Executive Head Chef Alan Staley will delight and surprise any seasoned gourmet.

The Hamborough Bar & Terrace
Lunch and afternoon tea are served daily in the relaxed setting of the Hamborough Bar or our beautiful, Colonial-style conservatory and terrace with its backdrop of rare, pink, climbing mountain geraniums. Our Head Pastry Chef Emily Harris, one of Heston Blumenthal's former pastry chefs at Dinner, has created a wonderful seasonal afternoon tea menu. Emily won an award for her afternoon tea whilst working at the Mandarin Oriental.

Royal Catering brings your dream wedding, garden party or high-octane corporate occasion to life, beautifully. It is celebrated for its charm, glorious, painterly food inspired by the abundant island larder and impeccable levels of service, creativity and perfectionism.

Elegant Rooms

All the bedrooms in our beautiful Isle of Wight Hotel are individually styled. The tone is English country house with a contemporary twist using silks, rich velvets and elegant toile de jouy fabrics - with the emphasis on detail, luxury and comfort. Each room has a flat screen television and direct dial telephone to help you relax or work with ease. Bathrooms are well appointed and many of our principal bedrooms have inspiring views over the garden or Ventnor Bay.
