Blackbrook House, built in the late 1800’s for the prosperous Strutt Family is a splendid privately owned Victorian country mansion, set within a perfect mix of 8 acres of woodland and gardens. The house combines traditional Victorian hospitality with wonderfully interesting food, complimented by style, quality and a relaxed ambience often aspired to but so rarely found.
Blackbrook House is unique, in fact most of our guests say that we are incomparable, and for that we are eternally grateful because it is our uniqueness that has led to the wonderful reputation we have today.
Weddings
A wedding is such an important day in a Bride and Grooms life as well as for the members of their families. It is the day when every little detail is important, and when the noticeable little touches as well as the bigger elements of the day really matter!
Weddings with a difference
When we started our business our aim was to be different, to be personal, to offer choice, to consider every tiny detail in planning an event, to cook exquisite, different food and turn dreams into reality for our guests, all delivered with a smile at every corner.
Making your day as individual as “you are” is what we want to be able to do for you, after all it is your day. As a Bride and Groom its normal to request a wedding package, it’s the first point of contact you have with a venue! At Blackbrook House, we find packages impersonal, and to date we have planned every wedding individually with every couple. The better we get to know you, the better we can make your day and the more we can personalize it.
As a family owned business we set our own standards, and after 6 years we are still one of Derbyshire’s best kept secrets which is great because virtually every one that finds us comes by word of mouth – what better recommendation is there than that?
Civil ceremonies
We are an approved venue for civil ceremonies. No wedding is too small for us. We are as happy to work with you to create a small intimate day as well as planning a much larger wedding, where we can accommodate up to 144 guests seated.
There are of course a basic set of facts you need to know to make a final decision as to the suitability of the venue. If you feel you would like to talk to us about your day, then please give us a call and we will happily provide you with as much detail as we can in order to help you to make your choice.
As always the best way to really see what we can offer you, for us to inspire you further with our creativity and for you to get a feel for the warmth of the house, is to come and see us and let us share an hour of your time. There is so much more to share with you than what we have included today, and we hope it helps build on the excitement that’s to follow. There will be many, many more questions that will spring to mind – just know that no matter how daft they seem ask them of us! That’s what we are here to do. Help!
Food Glorious Food
Everything that is served from our kitchen is prepared by our own team of chefs, using the freshest of local and seasonal ingredients. We all eat with our eyes, presentation is so important, no matter what we are serving we want to make it as appealing as possible so our guests are excited about tucking in.
The Rooms
The Drawing Room – Decorated in true Victorian style with panelled walls of warm gold’s and drapes in beautiful reds and rich blues that compliment the proportions of the room and the splendor of the house. A wonderful square bay window, with seating to admire the views of the rolling hillside and the dark oak fireplace give this room a feeling of true opulence.
The Garden Room – The warmth of the colours and the expanse of windows within this room, make it a wonderful bright happy room. Spectacular views of the gardens and hillside give the feeling of total peace and tranquillity.
The Bluebell Room – A small room next to the drawing room, aptly named because of the wonderful view of the woodlands which are adorned with spectacular bluebells during May. This room has a really cosy feel to it and makes for a wonderful private dining room or small lounge.
The Terrace Room - A uniquely flexible room having two removable walls within it enable party sizes to be accommodated from 30 to 150 guests. The stunning glass atriums, oak bar and oak dance floor together with the warm creams and the sage greens blend beautifully with the open country side and terrace on to which the room leads from triple french doors. To experience the true beauty and flexibility of this room it has to be seen.
