Eshott Holl is a beautiful 17th-century country house wedding venue located in Rothbury, in England's Northumberland region. Set in idyllic surroundings with rolling lawns and ancient woodland, this elegant property is available exclusively for your wedding.

Facilities and Capacity

Eshott Hall is licensed for civil ceremonies and civil partnerships, which can be held in any of the elegant reception rooms or in the beautiful Reading Room situated only a short walk from the Hall. They can also be held outside on the venue's 70 acres of land, in the restored Victorian Fernery or Woodland. Smaller, more intimate, ceremonies can take place in front of the fire in the Drawing Room or Library. Larger gatherings, meanwhile, often take place on the sweeping staircase beneath the original stained glass window. Reception drinks can be held outside or, if the weather is inclement, in the Library, Drawing Room, or Hall. The wedding breakfast is served in the Ballroom, which has five sets of French doors and an Orangery. The Ballroom opens onto the gardens and is the perfect room for celebrations. Overnight accommodation is available in the hall's 26 individually designed bedrooms.

Services Offered

For your convenience, catering for celebrations at Eshott Hall is taken care of by the in-house team. The venue has been awarded two AA rosettes for its food using seasonal and local produce. Many of the ingredients they use come directly from the walled kitchen garden. To further support you as you plan your dream celebration, the venue offers assistance with wedding coordination.

Perfect Venue for a Perfect Day

‘Perfect venue for a perfect day. Thank you so much for all your help, professionalism & outstanding service on our wedding day! Hannah, thank you and the team so much for helping us organise the absolute best day of our lives. The day was absolute perfection, accompanied by some well-timed sunshine. Please could you also thank Lauren, she was an absolute star. The rooms were set up better than we’d ever imagined, the running of the day was amazing, the food was amazing and Lauren was brill, even picking up and sorting Amy’s dress, including the evening too. So many people commented on how beautiful the venue was. We will definitely be recommending it to other potential engaged couples! We hope to see you close to our one year anniversary, for a night away, as our actual one year anniversary will be spent at another wedding. Thanks so much, Love from Rachel & Amy.’

An Eventful Weekend at Eshott Hall: A 3-Star Review

Eshott Hall was a beautiful backdrop for our wedding, and while our special day was filled with moments of joy and love, there were some unfortunate issues that prevent us from giving it a perfect review.

Our journey with Eshott Hall began with an unexpected change in our wedding date only 3 months after putting down our deposit. We had to move our wedding forward by a year due to the venue's sudden closure, which was a stressful situation to navigate. Despite this unexpected change, we were still excited about the prospect of celebrating our union at this beautiful location.
Our wedding weekend was a two-day celebration, with the Friday evening being the prelude to our main event on Saturday. We appreciate the efforts made by the staff in helping us set up and coordinate the final details during our run-through meeting. However, the hiccups began on the first evening.
A handful of our guests reported issues, including not having towels in their rooms upon check-in, which was unexpected for a luxury hotel. On Friday night, welcome drinks were not circulated as planned, and when I inquired about them, the barman's rude and abrupt response was shocking and disappointing. This behaviour was observed by our guests and marred the evening. Thankfully, the manager quickly rectified the situation. Later, when dinner was brought out, it was discovered that the wine we had provided for our guests to drink with dinner was not being circulated, and the dietary requirements of a family member were completely overlooked, despite all details being agreed upon in advance (both one month before and immediately before the celebrations proceeded).

The most distressing revelation was that the barman had been charging our guests for non-alcoholic drinks instead of putting them on our pre-paid bar tab and not offering the welcome drinks or the wine we had imported specially from France. He had instead been charging guests for the wine sold by Eshott Hall and not informing them of the wine that we had provided. The wine we had imported was meant to be provided to our guests free of charge, and the corkage fee was paid in advance. This error was especially disheartening since we wanted to ensure our guests were well taken care of as they had all travelled a long way to celebrate with us.

On the brighter side, the Saturday of our wedding was a dream come true. The morning staff were very apologetic for the previous night's issues and ensured that the staff on duty were aware of the bar tab and wine arrangements. The day itself was splendid, with exceptional service and delicious food. The wedding breakfast in the beautifully dressed ballroom was exquisite, and the lamb roast in the evening was incredible. Special dietary requirements were handled well, and we received many compliments on our inclusive approach.

Our wedding weekend, despite the Friday night hiccups, was filled with happiness and love, and we are grateful for the effort put in by the staff to make our wedding memorable.

In summary, Eshott Hall provided a picturesque setting and memorable moments for all invited, but the issues on the Friday night left a lasting impact. We hope that these points are taken constructively to enhance the experience for future couples celebrating their special day at Eshott Hall.

We would like to say a big thank you to the staff at Eshott Hall again for all of their efforts.

This venue was both cosy and grand, during the organisation stages the staff couldn't do enough and on the day they were amazing. Surrounded by the beautiful and peaceful countryside, amazing food too!

Magical Wedding Weekend

Thank you to everyone at Eshott for a magical wedding weekend. It was everything we hoped it would be and the location, the helpful staff and of course the amazing sunny spring weather made it perfect! We love the hall, it’s like home from home, the rooms are gorgeous and the grounds and the Reading Room are so beautiful. Walking down the drive to the ceremony at the Reading Room made it even more special. On the morning of my wedding I opened my curtains to see rabbits playing on the lawn, blue tits flying by singing and the sun shining through the trees – couldn’t have been better! All of our guests loved the hall too so everyone had a fantastic time. We are very happy that we picked Eshott Hall for our wedding and would recommend it to anyone else who would like a picture perfect, relaxed country house wedding in the most lovely county in England.

Fantastic Staff

To all the fantastic staff at Eshott Hall, Thank you so much for looking after us all so well on our wedding day. We had the most amazing time which we’ll never forget! Every one of our guests kept commenting on what a beautiful place Eshott is, with such a warm, welcoming atmosphere, and a lot of that was to do with you being helpful, patient and really friendly. Your hard work is a credit to it all being such a success. Lots of Love, Steph & Nick Brennan

A fantastic venue - absolutely gorgeous and really made our day extra special!

We knew we wanted our wedding at Eshott Hall as soon as we saw it. It is just gorgeous. A beautiful 17th Century house set in beautiful surroundings.

The host and hostess were very helpful and friendly in the lead up to the wedding and on the day – no question seemed silly or trivial.

We had champagne on the lawn when we arrived and throughout the photographs which everyone thoroughly enjoyed. There are 2 beautiful lounge rooms inside for those who wanted to sit down and rest though. And a gorgeous entrance hall for the receiving line.

The room was decorated beautifully (v little left to do when we went up to see it the day before).

The food was fantastic – often food can be disappointing at weddings when it is mass produced but it was outstanding.

The only things that disappointed us were that we were moved from the front lawn after the meal (apparently due to the noise we were making but there weren’t any neighbours so not sure what that was about!); the venue was no smoking which luckily was ok as the weather was dry and sunny but it could have been; and at midnight it all ended and when the guests went home there was nowhere for the 6 of us who were staying to go for a final drink and chat before bed. So we were stuck in a little lobby room and I had to sit on the floor!

But that’s me being very honest – I’d still recommend it to anyone who wants a gorgeous venue and lovely food!
