It’s rather strange how most hotels overlook the importance of their staff when talking about themselves, yet staff can make or break your visit. Sure, the building and its furnishings are important, and location is critical – but unless staff enjoy what they are doing, and gain satisfaction from a job well done, then your experience will be at best spoiled - and at worst ruined.
We place a high emphasis on staff training, investing in their personal development and professional training. This is reflected in both the genuineness and professionalism of their hospitality during your stay.
They are well versed in the need to be unobtrusive as well as attentive ….. in most respects we hope that you hardly notice how successful they have been in looking after you.
Weddings
We enjoy helping couples organise their wedding day and have masses of experience. We like challenges and helping turn your ideas into reality.
The first thing to do is arrange to come and have a look around. We will show you round the Hall and gardens and explain how Goldstone will work for you and with you and we will start to focus on your brief and concept.
With this in mind we can then start to develop a budget and a framework for the day.
Plan your Day
The Special Occasions Team, led by Lynda Walton, takes attention to detail and planning to new heights of pro-activeness and organisation. And they never forget that planning a wedding is part of the pleasure and fun of the occasion. But they will check and check again to ensure your carefully laid plans turn into action. They are always available to answer questions and queries and will not hesitate to assist in finding the solution to the most complex of wedding issues.
Fantastic photos
Once you are married, whether here or at church, the party can begin. You will be met with a glass to start the celebrations, your guests will join you and you and your party can move to the Old Walled Garden where we will serve drinks and canapés. The long herbaceous borders will be full of colour and are designed to provide focus and interest all the year round – a great backdrop for photographs.
Superb Food
The kitchen, under the leadership of Head Chef John Thompson, produces food that has been recognised by the AA at two rosette standard for 10 years and Michelin have listed us as a particularly quiet and relaxing hotel and restaurant for three years
We have a kitchen garden at Goldstone where Nick Huxley, our Head Gardener, produces lots of vegetables, masses of herbs and fruit. Whenever we have produce ready to harvest we will use it in your menu. Our potatoes are grown on the neighbouring farm by Eddie Cartwright except February through to April when stocks may be low. We source and exclusively use asparagus and strawberries from Hungersheath Asparagus and Fruit Farm from May to the end of the season. Buttercross Farm, near Market Drayton, pride themselves on rearing best quality pork and we are very pleased to source our pork and bacon from them.
The Oak Pavilion
The new Oak Pavilion, licensed to host wedding ceremonies, creates a stunning focal point in the garden and with its log fire will provide warmth on cooler days.
Bedrooms
Goldstone’s history is one of unhurried evolution – a fact reflected in the bewildering array of roof lines and architectural styles that beguile many of our guests.
Not surprisingly, therefore, none of our 12 bedrooms are identical. They do have certain features in common: they are spacious and airy (even 250 years ago, the Georgians knew how to optimise space). Bathrooms are large and all bar one feature a power shower (Georgian style has been enhanced and modernised by the latest Teutonic bathroom technology). Since much of your time in your room will be spent in bed, we’ve placed an emphasis on ensuring that they, too, are large and exceedingly comfortable.
We are rather proud of all of our rooms, not to mention our standard of housekeeping, but if you want to really pamper yourself, our six deluxe bed chambers provide an opportunity to sample even more luxury.
