Hitchin Priory set in 19 acres of stunning parkland. Originally a Carmelite monastery built in 1317, Hitchin Priory has progressively evolved over the centuries and now gracefully combines a mosaic of ages.
Weddings
Hitchin Priory is a charming 14th Century building, set in 19 acres of magnificent gardens and parkland nestling on the River Hiz. Steeped in history dating back to 1317, Hitchin Priory was later patronised by Henry VIII and many original features remain, including cloisters, Monks Walk with its original beams and large banqueting halls with grand fireplaces. Truly a stunning setting for your perfect wedding. Our experienced wedding planner will be with you every step of the way, from your initial enquiry right through to your wedding day itself, offering exceptional dedication to ensure your desires are met.
Capacity
You can invite up to 80 guests for your Wedding Breakfast in the Main House, or up to 200 guests in the Priory Marquee, and for your evening reception up to 200 guests in the Main House, and 300 guests in the Marquee.
Civil ceremony
Hitchin Priory is licensed for civil ceremonies for up to 90 guests conducted in the splendour of the Main House with elegantly decorated, beautifully appointed reception rooms.
Catering
From canapés, to your Wedding Breakfast, to your evening buffet, we understand just how important food and drink is in uniting you and your guests to celebrate your most special occasion. Our Head Chef has created a beautiful and exciting menu for you to enjoy, with fine local produce cooked with passion to exceed your expectations. Our chefs pride themselves on being
ultimately flexible when creating a tailor-made menu to suit your specific requirements. Meeting our Chef at the planning stage will also allow you to taste a selection of our menu.
Wedding breakfast
Traditionally, the Wedding Breakfast is the first meal taken by the Bride and Groom in their married life together, in the company of their family, friends and guests. This meal is the centrepiece of your marriage celebrations, and we pride ourselves in satisfying your expectations. Your Wedding Breakfast can be served formally as a sit-down meal in one of the large banqueting halls, or informally as a buffet style with many different menu options available.
Bar and wines
You can choose from an extensive wine list with a selection of red and white wines, along with sparkling beverages and champagne available either on arrival, or following your civil ceremony. Our drinks packages will cater for every taste and preference, and we will be very happy to advise you as to which beverage would best accompany your choice of menu.
Evening entertainment
You can enjoy dancing to a band or disco in the Atrium of the Main House, or a disco in the Marquee until midnight. We will be delighted to arrange the evening entertainment for you.
Bridal suite and bedrooms
Hitchin Priory has 50 en-suite bedrooms, all equipped with complimentary tea and coffee making facilities with a colour television, and we offer specially discounted bedroom rates for all your guests. We offer our Bridal Suite to the Bride and Groom with our compliments, and all our rates include a full English breakfast, allowing your guests to meet in the morning and share special memories of your wedding.
