Your Day… Unlike many venues, Markenfield Hall does not offer a fixed wedding package. Because of the intimate nature of the Hall, and the guarantee that yours will be the only wedding here on the day, we are able to tailor your day to your needs. We will simply outline the different alternatives available, and then let you decide what you would like to do where and when.
Prices and Rooms… There are three main fees to hire the Hall for a wedding, coupled with a reduced rate for bookings taking place on a weekday, and these are detailed below:
The Standard fee of £2,250 (£2,000 Monday to Friday) includes: the use of the Hall until6pm with the Civil Ceremony in either the Great Hall, the Drawing Room or the Vaulted Study and the Wedding Breakfast in the Undercroft.
The Golden fee of £2,750 (£2,500 Monday to Friday) includes: the use of the Hall until6pm with the Civil Ceremony in either the Undercroft, the Drawing Room or the Vaulted Study and the Wedding Breakfast in the Great Hall.
The Ceremony-only fee of £1,750 (£1,500 Monday to Friday) includes: the use of the Hall for approximately three hours with the Civil Ceremony in either the Undercroft, the Drawing Room, the Vaulted Study or the Great Hall.
The Chapel of St Michael Archangel… the beautiful Mediaeval Chapel at Markenfield Hall is available for a Service of Dedication (otherwise known as a Blessing) once you have been married in the Civil Ceremony. The Chapel is Catholic by origin, but happily shares its Services with Anglican congregations, and we will gladly supply the contact details of our Church of England Priest. It is with regret that the Chapel cannot be offered for Catholic Dedication Services, due to restrictions set by the Catholic Church.
Plus… All of the above options include the use of the Hall and the Gardens for reception drinks and photographs. The Orchard and theEast Gardens provide a spectacular backdrop for photographs and are a photographer’s delight in any season. The Caterers are more than happy to follow your party outside and serve drinks and canapés whilst your guests are exploring the grounds.
Catering…All catering at Markenfield Hall is carried out by Brian and Elizabeth Dennison of the Dusty Miller. Brian and Elizabeth do not have set menus - they will meet with you at Markenfield to talk through your likes, your dislikes, any ideas that you may already have and also what will be available locally at the time of year you are to be married. From this they will produce a bespoke menu for you, which can include canapés to be served alongside your reception drinks. For those who planning to hold their Wedding Breakfast elsewhere, they can offer a reception drinks and canapé menu incorporating main course and desert canapés. Please ensure that you speak to the Dennisons before you finalise your booking at the Hall, to ensure that you secure a place in their increasingly busy diary.
Registrars…Before booking your day at Markenfield you will also need to speak to the Registrars at Harrogate Registry Office to ensure that they will be available to officiate on the day and at the time you need. It is advisable to do this as soon as possible, as they are exceedingly busy throughout the year. If you are holding your Wedding Breakfast at the Hall, we would suggest a Ceremony start time of12:00noon. You can of course have your Ceremony earlier, but we would say a start time of1:00pm at the latest to allow for a Service of Blessing (if required), reception drinks and photographs before you and your guests are seated. For those holding their Ceremony at the Hall, but not their Wedding Breakfast, we would suggest a start time for the Civil Ceremony of any time before4:00pm.
Maintaining the Romance… Because of the private and romantic nature of the Hall, we believe that it is unsuitable for large numbers of people. We therefore ask that you limit your guests to a maximum of 35 (to include the Bride and Groom). As Markenfield continues its proud history of one of the oldest continuously inhabited houses in the country, the family ask that all celebrations end by6:00pm. We are more than happy to suggest suitable venues in the area for an evening reception should you with carry your celebrations on in to the evening.
