Brigg first grew as a crossing point on the River Ancholme, taking its name from the bridge constructed to make east-west journeys easier. It has a colourful history of markets and fairs and is today a thriving market town with a variety of events, and a strong industry in tourism.
With its traditional street market and around 150 specialist shops centred mainly in the pedestrianised area, the town is certainly an enticing prospect for shoppers and tourists. Instead of the familiar high street names associated with any shopping trip, you will find local people who place particular importance on customer care and the personal touch run the majority of shops in Brigg.
Angel Suite:
Brigg Town Council is justifiably proud of the Angel Suite, which was officially opened in 1995, following the final phase of renovations to the old Angel Hotel.
The Town Council Office is located in the basement of the Angel Suite, but the main function of the building is to provide Brigg with a Community Centre which lends itself to any type of function. The building is also regularly used by a number of local organisations.
There is a large hall on the upper floor (still known as the ballroom from it’s days as the Angel Hotel Ballroom), a mid sized lounge/meeting room on the lower floor.
Prices to hire the building are very reasonable, and comparable with other Village Halls in North Lincolnshire. The building is fully accessible for people who have mobility problems, as there is a lift that can accommodate a wheelchair to serve all levels.
