This is the ideal civil ceremony and wedding venue located in the historic town of Colchester, Essex. Enter the building through two highly decorated cast-iron gates, gifted to The Town Hall in 1898, you come into the reception hall with marble staircase and statue of Queen Victoria. The Town Hall Architect John Belcher ARA (1841-1913) extensively used sculptures and artworks throughout the building. The spectacular Italian marble staircase dominates the hall and provides a memorable backdrop for your wedding or corporate photography. The entrance alone offers an inviting reception for all types of occasions and we have outstanding function rooms still used for their original purpose and which are available for hire

Function Rooms

Colchester Town Hall can offer different room styles and themes for any occasion. With a choice of four rooms, we can create the perfect setting in whichever one you choose for the ultimate wedding experience.

Council Chamber

The Council Chambers is a spacious room, with a glorious painted ceiling showing a classical depiction of the twelve months of the year. The main features of this room are the Mayor's Chair, supplied in 1887 by Arrowsmiths of Bond Street, London, and the two stained glass windows, depicting the full Roman history of the Borough. The Council Chamber is a unique and memorable venue for weddings and commitment ceremonies.

The Moot Hall

The Moot Hall's grandeur is balanced by it's collection of historical oil paintings and ornate décor. It offers an ideal setting for a variety of occasions. The entrance doors face three stunning stained glass windows that illustrate the history of Colchester since 1066. This large room can be used for any event from exhibitions to weddings, AGMs to charity nights and balls. This is a perfect example of the beautifully maintained facilities available here at the Town Hall.

The Grand Jury Room

The Grand Jury Room offers a classical and ornate venue for both personal and professional events alike. With the civic regalia display and a collection of oil paintings, this room is especially suitable for holding welcome drinks, ceremonies and receptions.

The Old Library

This new and exciting room has recently been refurbished and is now available to hire, it is a large light room which is ideal for wedding ceremonies, receptions and parties.
