There has been a settlement at Combe Bank since Roman times. The present Grade I listed Palladian house, set in 27 acres of parkland, was built by Roger Morris in 1720.
The house became the property of Dr William Spottiswoode. In 1830 during his ownership, the Walter Crane Room, now the school library, came into existence. Dr Spottiswoode also installed electricity to Combe Bank which was one of the first grand houses to give up gas mantles.
The gardens contain many historical points of interest from the urns still in their original positions, to the old exit arch and bridge at the south east corner.
