HMS Trincomalee Trust

HMS Trincomalee, built in Bombay for the Admiralty in 1817, is the oldest ship afloat in the UK and the last of the commissioned frigates of the Nelson era. She saw service in the West Indies and throughout the vast Pacific in the nineteenth century before taking a role as a training vessel, largely in Portsmouth, that lasted until 1986, by which time she was in poor condition.

The Ship was sensitively restored in Hartlepool between 1990 and 2001in a project that gained widespread acclaim with the Trust winning an International Maritime Heritage Award. Subsequent recognition has included a Silver Award in the 2004 national finals of the Excellence in England Tourism ‘Oscars’, and reference in several notable publications as a fine example of the voluntary maritime sector leading economic and tourism regeneration in the renaissance of towns and cities.

Weddings

The Ship has a Licence as a venue for Civil Marriages and red-carpet weddings in the Captain's Cabin are an increasingly popular feature.

The chartering of the Ship for a wedding provides one and a half hour's exclusive use that allows plenty of time for the ceremony and unique photographic opportunities for the family album! Weddings in the ship are normally available in the mornings and from 4.30pm.

Catering

The Trust has a contract with Cleveland Caterers for the supply of catering in the Ship. Self-catering or the use of other contractors is not permitted without the written consent of the Trust. The conservation requirements of the Ship mean that no cooking can be undertaken on board, which creates a whole new challenge for the caterers! Cleveland Caterers is a well-established Company that offers an excellent choice and service.
