Horses have been part of my life from a very early age. My parents wintered pony trekking horses on our family farm when I was young and, when I was older I took a part time job working with driving horses on weddings, funerals and demonstrations. We used both carriage horses and heavy horses for these jobs and it was from this that my affinity with driving horses and my love of Shire horses developed.
When I was 15 my father brought two Shire horses, Prince and Dan, to do working demonstrations on our farm. These were experienced horses who had seen something of life and taught us both a lot about how we should and shouldn't do the job!
After attending an equine Studies course at Warwickshire College, Moreton Morrell, I spent three years working for one of the countries top trade show teams.
I had lost Prince during this time due to old age and, as I had no interest in any other type of work a new show mate was found for Dan and my business was born. I now have three Shire Horses (Dan retired a few years ago) who are regularly out attending weddings, funerals and demonstrating traditional skills as well as competing at National and Local shows (I attended 8 county level shows in 2008) and ploughing matches. In addition to the work with my own horses I also undertake training and education of all types of horses for many disciplines.
The Wedding
As each wedding is individual I tailor my service to ensure your wedding day is unique.
The wedding carriage is fairly modern, but built on traditional lines. It can carry up to 4 people so the bride may travel with her bridesmaids and escort if she wishes. There is an overhead canopy to offer protection in the event of inclement weather which still allows the bride to see and be seen.
We can use one or two of our magnificent Shire horses, the gentle giants of the horse world. There is no maximum distance that these horses are capable of traveling but when deciding upon horse drawn transport you must consider the time it takes a horse to cover the distance, walking comfortably at about three and half miles an hour and trotting at about six.
If the initial start point is a long way from the marriage destination I am happy to meet you part way along the route so you are still able to arrive in style. I am able to transport you from your marriage ceremony to your reception, however if the distance is prohibitive, I will take you part way to a pre arranged meeting point. Should you wish to take a particular route please enclose detailed information with your booking form or e mail me on the link below.
Most weddings follow a similar format, but if you want to do something different or unusual then please send me an e mail. In the past we have been asked to travel to different venues for photographs or return to the reception later in the evening to collect the bride and groom (obviously in the dark we cannot travel far and this is more of a photo opportunity).
