5 Tips for Hiring a Wedding Photographer

By weddingspot.co.uk, 12/04/11 The services for your wedding

You want to remember the day of your wedding forever and preserve every minute detail of it. The only way to do that is through photos and videos.

Your dress and the groom's suit will be extraordinarily beautiful, but you will struggle to wear them more than once. The flowers will be divine, but they will wilt after the day. The food, the cake and the music will be spot on...

As will the majority of the details at your wedding, but it's only with the help of photos and videos that you will remember the day how you experienced it.

Most people leave choosing a good photographer to the last minute, the choice being determined by their budget, and they forget about professionalism and the satisfaction of good results. Sometimes, the photographer comes with the venue, thus removing the choice altogether.

Also, we're aware that these days lots of friends and family have digital cameras, but perhaps no artistic or professional know-how.

The point of hiring a professional photographer and video camera is to ensure that everything is recorded in photos and videos. Once you have made the decision to hire a professional, pay attention to the following 5 tips:

  1. Look at and compare not only their website photos, but also "real" albums. Check that they are appealing to the eye, that the lighting is right and that they capture the essence of the moment, or if on the other hand, they are artificial poses that you don't want for your wedding.
  2. The majority of couples want a mixture of classic photos (with family and friends), and more spontaneous, natural shots, without posing or smiling for the camera. Ensure that you trust the photographer sufficiently to do what you are looking for, and to capture the day's events, from the details of your dressing room, to dancing the night away with family and friends.
  3. Another very important point is that you know beforehand which photographer will attend your wedding, since there are agencies with the capacity to cover several weddings in the same day, so they have several photographers. This isn't a good option if you want something more personalised. In this case, you need the photographer who you meet with to be the same person who will attend your wedding.
  4. In terms of dress code, it's essential that they have a good presence, seeing as at the altar it will be just the couple, the priest and the photographers. If they are inappropriately dressed it could make you or some of the guests feel uncomfortable.
  5. Remember that a low price at the beginning of negotiations may seem attractive, but you need to know exactly what it includes so as to avoid any unwelcome surprises at the last minute. Bearing the above points in mind, professionalism and photographic experience should be weighed up in relation to the cost.

These are the fundamental aspects that you should take into account when choosing a wedding photographer.

Good luck and congratulations!
