Albert, of Monaco, sovereign Prince of the Principality of Monaco, became engaged with Charlene Wittstock exactly one year ago. She is a South African professional swimmer who has a big heart. Here we provide some details regarding the planning of this grand wedding:
- The Monegasques are all invited to celebrate. Two free concerts by the group, the Eagles and Jean-Michel Jarre will be held two days before the wedding. All Monegasques and residents of nearby cities may attend these free concerts (2 tickets for citizens upon showing their ID card). In addition, a banquet dinner will take place the day before the palace and all residents of the Rock are invited.
- The couple publicly asked not to receive gifts. They ask that guests make donations to charities. The people of Monaco, however, have come together to present a surprise gift for the couple, which is to be delivered by the mayor.

- The religious ceremony will not take place in the cathedral, but in the courtyard of the grand palace. The capacity of the cathedral is so limited that all guests would not fit. It is the first time that a royal wedding has been held outside.
- The wedding director in charge of the dinner will be the great Alain Ducasse, who chose a menu that is 100% Mediterranean, with many local products. The wine, however, comes from South Africa, in honour of the princess. About 250 employees will work in the kitchen to satisfy the tastes of the 500 guests.
- Friday the 1st of July to Saturday the 2nd of July, have been declared national holidays in Monaco. Shops and restaurants will be allowed to open for tourists.
