Centrepieces for Summer Weddings

By weddingspot.co.uk, 13/07/11 The services for your wedding

Fruit, candles, sand and lots of colour! Flowers wilt rapidly in the summer, but centrepieces are always being reinvented. If you still haven't thought of how to decorate the tables, take note of our ideas.

If anything characterises the summer, it is the heat.  Even though we love it and it makes us want to take refreshing dips in the pool, it is terrible for flowers, especially freshly cut flowers.  So that your centrepieces don't rapidly wilt, today we bring you a collection of ideas and original proposals.

Water, sand, candles, and fruit are some of the elements that we have chosen for our summer centrepieces because "who said that centrepieces had to be made up of flowers?"

  • Forget about over-elaborate centrepieces with large flowers.
  • Choose flowers that are in season and avoid the delicate kind.
  • You can put wild flowers in small crystal jars full of water.  Don't overdo them, it is better to have three small jars with a few flowers than one with many.
  • A fishbowl full of water with floating flowers or petals is a refreshing and colourful idea.

  • If the wedding is on the beach, you could use more natural based centrepieces with sand, starfish and seashells.
  • If the wedding is taking place during the day, then forget about candles, they will only make your guests feel warmer.  However, centrepieces with floating candles for an evening wedding are a good idea.
  • Fruit-based centrepieces are a great choice: apples, oranges, limes or lemons are the most frequently used fruit.  If you use sliced fruit, then they will not only decorate but perfume the surroundings.

  • If you do not want to go without the flowers, you could put them in small flowerpots, they will stay fresh much longer.
  • Potted cacti also look lovely.  They are very resistant plants, and not all cacti have spikes, some are really pretty.
