Drafting a wedding budget

Make a detailed budget and see where and how much money you will have to spend on each detail of your wedding…

How do you draft a wedding budget? The first thing to do is to sit down and brainstorm the ideas that each of you have about what you imagine from the wedding. Write all of them down, however big or small and be open to all suggestions- sometimes the best ideas can come from things that originally you would never have otherwise thought about!

Then go through and make a short-list of the ideas along with the approximate costs of each. Group the ideas into categories e.g. the ceremony, reception, bridesmaids and groomsmen and grab the calculator to work out how much money will need to be allocated to each group.  Some lucky people have a financial helping hand from parents or other loved ones so if this is the case, it will be a good opportunity to see where this money can go. Similarly, it will also make it easier to see where you can cut costs.

The budget should include every possible expense that will be involved in the wedding and with a minimum and maximum price range…in this way you know how much to save and won’t get any nasty surprises when the credit card statement comes through!
