Grey for Every Wedding

By Monica Lorraine, 13/07/11 Before the wedding

When thinking of a colour scheme the options are really quite endless, but there is one colour that can make almost any one colour stand out even more. Grey. If you want an elegant, modern wedding, you’re in the right place.

Grey and pink, grey and sea green, grey and blue, and one of the most popular colour schemes, grey and yellow!  Pick one colour, add light grey and you have a fabulous colour scheme! It can be said that grey is the new neutral and the grey trend has been called “Natural Purity”, which features blue-grey, taupe, pewter, pale grey and other similar shades, whereby grey replaces white, brown and beige.  Here are a few tips for grey wedding colour schemes:

  • When using grey in your colour scheme, try to stick with silver jewellery and accents, and avoid gold which can draw attention away from the cool grey.

  • Find a venue with warm or light grey walls and grey furniture to add warmth and dimension to the room.
  • If you are adding a second colour, try to have the same shade of grey and add more shades in the other colour.  With yellow you can have mustard, canary, cream, and any shade, but stick with a pale grey colour for the contrast.
  • If you are sticking with a completely grey colour scheme, purchase fabrics in different patterns of grey to add texture, contrast and interest to the overall look.  Add depth with rich burgundy or darker grey and lighten it up with pearl jewellery.

  • Remember to incorporate grey and your other chosen colour in every element of the wedding from the bridesmaid dresses to the wedding favours and start with the invitations!

  • And finally, when working with a grey palate, the groom’s suit must be grey, preferably a light or pale grey!

Grey is such a versatile colour, if you work your wedding theme around this colour you are sure to end up with a fantastic style!
