Honeymoon in Greece
Although Greece may be in the papers for all the wrong reasons at the moment, it is still a popular and beautiful honeymoon destination.
Greece, ancient land of the gods, full of beautiful islands and romantic sunsets, good food and stunning backdrops. The climate is Mediterranean, so although summer may be wedding season and a tempting time to head off, the heat will be suffocating, especially on the mainland. Many consider the best time of year to be spring; the weather is mild but warm, the beaches are clean and fresh and the islands are covered in spring flowers and greenery.

Although mainland Greece has much to offer, you will probably want to head off to one (or some!) of the thousands of islands. The classic honeymoon islands of Santorini, Mykonos or Paros, are found in a group known as the Cyclades. But there are many other groups of islands like for example the Ionian Islands to the west of the mainland, where you can find islands like Lefkada (some of the best beaches in Greece) and Ithaca (of Odysseus fame) as well as better known Corfu and Zakynthos. If you prefer something off the beaten track, the Dodecanese are a further but less travelled option. They are comprised of 12 main and 150 smaller islands, 26 of which are inhabited. The most famous here are Rhodes, Kos and Patmos.
Food and entertainment are key to Greek culture, with a plenitude of local tavernas (restaurants) serving classic dishes, seasonal fresh local food and of course each island (and probably each town on each island!) has it's famous specialities. Locals are welcoming and friendly, in fact the further you get away from the tourist track, the warmer the welcome will be.
In any case, a honeymoon in Greece will guarantee memories for years to come.
