How to Create a Christmas Wedding Theme

If you just love Christmas and can't get enough of Santa and his helpers, mince pies and jingle bells, then a Christmas themed wedding is just for you! Let's take a look at how to deck those wedding halls and be very jolly.

The fire roars, it's cold outside, holly and mistletoe decorate the door-frames and the smell of mulled wine hangs in the air... then, with a fanfare, in comes the bride! No, it's not the most usual theme, but there are some true Christmas fanatics out there and if that includes you take a look at some of these tips.

  • Decoration The theme is Christmas so perhaps you could make a mood board starting with red, green, silver or gold (not both), white... you could even play around a bit and add royal blue instead of green to make it more modern. In any case think warm, festive colours and luxury.

  • Food Guests could  be welcomed with mince pies, warmed with mulled wine and served delicious mid winter feast at the reception: duck, gammon, gravy and all the trimmings. Pudding have to include something to do with dried fruit and pastry, but if you want to stay away from heavy Christmas puds, why not provide a mince-meat strudel and custard or ice-cream.

  • Flowers The first rule will be plenty of green foliage: ivy, holly and mistletoe are standard but also pussy willow and fir boughs. Beautiful flowers in deep red like amaryllis or ranunculus abound, or delicate white flowers like snowdrops and lilies.
  • Dress Your dress has to be white, but you can give the bridesmaids and your beau a touch of the Christmas spirit with gold dresses or neck-ties, red sashes or shoes, or gold and silver accessories. Bouquets and buttonholes with mistletoe can't go wrong.
  • Music Christmas classics that must be played: Mariah Carey’s 'All I want for Christmas is you', Brenda Lee's 'Rockin' around the Christmas tree', Eartha Kitts' 'Santa baby', Slade 'Merry Christmas Everybody' ... among others!

Whatever you decide, the Christmas spirit is sure to infect everyone and make it a very special day.
