Original Wedding Vows

By weddingspot.co.uk, 09/08/11 The wedding ceremony

The most emotional part of any wedding is when the bride and groom exchange vows. Some opt for the classic “I do”, but others prefer to personalise them. For this reason we have come up with a list of original ideas for your vows.

Religious ceremonies have an ironclad protocol, and in principal, to say “I do”, you can only choose from among certain pre-established formulas. Civil weddings, on the other hand, are much more flexible and even allow you to write your own vows.

Today we have prepared some ideas so that your wedding vows are the most original, and why not most entertaining that your wedding guests have ever seen:

  • You could use the verses from a poem. Each one could recite a poem that expresses their feelings, or you could choose the same one and each one read a part.
  • If you don't like poems, then you could do the same but with the lyrics of a song. On this occasion, you could each choose a different song, or one that is special for both of you.
  • And if you are good at it, why not sing the song? Whether it is a ballad, a rap or a rock song, you can sing this song that means so much to you.
  • If you want to surprise everyone, use a song from a musical, and if you are up for it you could also dance.
  • And if you like the cinema, use a dialogue from one of your favourite films. In this case, if the name of the character is mentioned, substitute it for your own.

  • But if you are looking for something simpler, why not write your own, but in rhyme?
  • If you are a bit of a comedian, you could write yours as if it were a monologue, without making it too long.
  • If you are doctors or chemists, write yours as if it were a leaflet for a medicine, but short, comfortable and with a pinch of humour.
  • Lawyers could prepare a legal contract, air stewards could read them as if they were safety instructions on a plane.
