Pre-Marriage Classes
If you're thinking of getting married in a church, you will have to attend pre-marriage classes. In this article we'll explain what they entail, how, when and where you have to do them.

Pre-marriage classes consist of a series of talks which deal with different aspects of life as a couple and the family, focusing on several themes: psychology of the couple, love, sexuality, procreation, social dimension of the family, faith and the sanctity of marriage. You must contact your parish priest at least three months beforehand to set the date for which you attend.
The talks are carried out in groups, in which the parish priest and an experienced married person present a topic so that the couples can discuss it. Each session lasts about two hours, and in general, only one topic will be presented in each session. Also, so that the couples have time to let the topic discussed in the class sink in and talk about it between themselves, it's best to space out the sessions, doing one a week.

The pre-marriage classes are held in your local parish, although if you are unable to attend due to your timetable, you can attend another parish. Another option is an intensive course which is held at the weekends from Friday to Sunday, or a distance course.
Although in theory they are voluntary, pre-marriage courses are compulsory, since the decision whether or not to do them rests with the parish priest, and for the most part, they believe it is advisable to do them. At the end of it you will be awarded an attendance certificate.
