Special Feature: A Dove Release for Your Wedding

A dove release could be the most magical way to end your wedding. In this article you’ll get answers to your questions and concerns you may have had about a dove release from an expert at Doves in Love.

Picture this……As you step out of the church, your family and guest have gathered to greet you as a wedded couple for the first time.  Waiting for you is a beautiful heart-shaped basket that holds two pure white doves.  As a couple, you open the basket, releasing two beautiful white doves to begin their flight together symbolizing your journey in life as a couple.  The crowd is in awe at the absolute beauty of the white doves as they take flight.  The doves circle the area briefly; uniting with the wedding couple as the sun highlights their white wings against the blue sky.  Your guests stare and admire their beauty.  This special day will be remembered for a long time....

Since the beginning of recorded history, white doves have been a symbol of peace, innocence, purity, fidelity and love.  Some cultures believe it’s a symbol of good luck and that good fortune will last throughout their marriage if a bride and groom see a white dove on their wedding day.  The colour white itself symbolises that the bride and groom are and will be pure to each other “from this day forward”. The flight home together symbolises the couple beginning their journey to start a home of their own.

What happens to the doves after they're released?

These amazing creatures are bred and trained to return to their home-loft quickly and safely upon release at your event.  Each of our doves undergo months of training to allow them to navigate home once they are released at weddings.

Do the Doves ever, ahh, well….you know?

Generally no.  We take special precautions to help ensure appropriate behaviour. We only release our birds before their daily feeding.  This is to insure that there are no accidents, but also because we want them to fly directly home.  This is an essential part of their training.  It is not their habit to take care of this business in flight, so there is no reason to worry about this.

What about bad weather?

The birds will never be released in heavy rain, fog, snow or other severe weather!  We will make every effort to perform the dove release as long as it is safe for the birds.  If the release is cancelled due to weather, a full refund will be issued.
