If there are children at your wedding, you will want to ensure they are well taken care of and have a good time. An essential part of looking after these little VIPs is to give them a tailor-made keepsake, just right for little hands and minds.

Children's wedding favours have two main functions: firstly to keep them entertained during boring (for children!) bits of the ceremony or speeches, and secondly something for them to take home and keep.

You will want to keep within the theme of the wedding, in terms of colour and season, and you should think about the ages of the children, make sure there is nothing to choke on for under 3s, for example. You may think it's appropriate to plan slightly different gifts for boys and girls.

Here are some basic ideas to get you started:

Edible treats: Food (especially the sweet variety) will go down equally well with adults and children. For kids you could make the packaging more fun and child-like: cartoons, princesses, sparkly details.

Creative ideas: Cut out (or press out to use then and there) card dolls with wedding inspired outfits, colouring in sheets or booklets and cool pens/pencils, sticker books or sheets, beads to make necklaces, a mug or other object that can be personalised with special pens.

Interactive fun: Many kids love being the centre of attention and you can make sure this is channelled in a fun and positive way. Depending on age and stage you could create interactive favours for the children so that they have to gather information from the other guests. For example mini-guest or autograph books, a wedding questionnaire (asking about where people have come from, their age, are they married, or even statistics on the colour of their clothes!) a single use camera, or get them to be in charge of a video corner if you have one.
